A Sad Demise
________________________

.
Mumbai , gifted me a hotel, Hotel Victory. Why this hotel is important? Because it catered to our taste> the Kerala dishes. Hotel was run by a family from Pathanamthitta, Kerala. But the were residents of Mumbai for past 20-25years.

The discovery.
________________________
It all started with a reference of our friend. Then I and my roomie started hunt. Since we were new to that place , we got baffled so many times. Atlast we discovered it. We found the hotel owner communicating in Hindi. So we thought , it might be run by a North Indian. . There we opted for the "Chicken Biriyaani" to feel the taste. After finishing it off, we left without any chit chat.
.

Second visit
________________________
Then again we visited the hotel with more friends. This time we came into contact to the Hindi speaking Malayalee, Mr Babu Thomas. He became friendly, as we went deeper into the history of hotel and him. This time the conversation was totally in Malayalam. Special Fish curry and Chicken prepared in Kerala style were readied. It was prepared by Mr Babu itself. The perfect sync of spices and masala were done.

Onam
________________________
We had our Onam celebrations here at Mumbai. So Onam, which is the Festival of Kerala was having a special meal called "Onam Sadhya"** [Onam dish] followed by Payasams. Since we were lacking Experience and were not in a mode to put that much effort, we went to Hotel Victory. We went in a bunch, with almost all wearing traditional dress "Mundu". We had our Onam Sadhya there.

Gradually we become hardcore lovers of Hotel Victorys dishes. So after coming from office, we three get down there at Hotel . This was followed through out the week and month. After bringing in my bike from Bangalore, the frequency of visit increased in weekends. With the Sunday being a special day at Victory, filled with delicious Kerala disjes and snacks. We were also given due consideration and had a good rappo with Mr Babu.We had chit chats till late night. Also one of the staff was from Kerala. We saw Mr Babu working as a Manager, a worker , table cleaner, cook. He had a great desire to work and was ready to help others in time.
.

The demise.
________________________
Mr Babu shared so many incidents of his life. Both bad and good. He left his job and kick started his first venture. Since the hotel has to be run , he worked relentlessly . He used to remain in the kitchen almost 24/7. He cared every worker and they were like a family. Later by around 19th December 2007 he fell ill and was admitted in a hospital. Since Christmas upcoming, they invited us to celebrate it with them. Even the child of his, mentioned of bursting crackers on Xmas and New Year. Mr Babu was given ventilator support. I visited him 2 times. Initially, when i made a visit, he was sleeping.
On december 25th, Christmas day, the face of hospitalised Babu came to my mind throughout, between the Xmas service. And I and my friends prayed for him. Then again I visited him on december 26th, he was happy and started smiling at me . He also talked a bit. I found his health as improved. Also the doctors and his wife expressed the same. We all thought he will be coming back to work soon.
On december 27th, I was on my way to room, after office hours. My friend/rommie called up and said "There is a bad news , Mr Babu passed away " .It was really shocking since we least expected this. On reaching home, I along with my friends went to his home. The situation over there were as such , we were unable to face his wife and his child, whom we used to interact daily. Even if the contact with Mr Babu was short, he find a place inside our heart. One of my room mate was on adoration prayer , so as to recover fast.Till now he is not informed, since he is out of coverage area. We contacted the center, but their response was lukewarm. But amid all our efforts, Mr Babu joined the heaven.

**Onam Sadhya will be served in Banana Leaf with Kerala rice and a wide variety of curries, salads, pappads, snacks .After finishing the dish you will be served a variety of "Paayasam" [ sweet]. So this dish preparation is usually carried out by experienced hands.More over a great effort and time should be spend for the N number of curries , so as to make it Grand.

Xmas'07 at Mumbai

December 25th 20O7
Xmas of 06 was spent at Bangalore. We were busy with project at NCST. So little do I enjoyed. I attended the Xmas nights Holy service. That was the only thing happened. One more interesting part was I bought cake to all my fellow NCSTians, they also came up with cake. I was really surprised. As I previously mentioned, I only spent Xmas , I havent celebrated . Since I had to help my team, which was in real danger and my colleague , who was really tensed.
.
.
Xmas of 07 was celebrated at Mother of Victory Church, Tikujiniwadi, Thane, Mumbai. This church is a well known pilgrim centre.Celebrations started with the Xmas Carol programs. These progams include, visiting each and every home which is registered to Church , then dancing and singing along with the Santa Claus. We had around 7days of Carol programs. And we used to cover 24 houses a day.
.
Major differences I have noticed between here and home town are . We were travelling in a Mini bus. We were having all the army im that. Usuage of a transport vehicle was done so as to cover a minimum of 20houses/ day. Since the city was vast and all registered families were scattered all over the city. At our home town we covered all houses by walk, since each houses where located near by.
Second thing was Santa, not only danced, but also made people dance with him. This is a big task, as people shy away from doing that. Here the group entered into houses/ flats. where at home town we used to remain at door steps or car porch. This entery into houses I believe is due to space restriction.
Third thing was we all had hours of joy and dance at our last stop. We had the traditional Kerala food at our last hop. Which we never had at home town, since we completed our visit to all the homes, one day before Xmas.
Forth thing was , here the group was mainly lead by elder people. There were a bigger cordination and maturity in the way things were organised. At our hometown , we youngsters holded the thread.
.
.
The Xmas service at church started by 10.30pm. The service included an animated sequence of the Genisis. Both the video and wordings were in perfect sync. The scene which symbolised the birth of Jesus Christ was perfectly engineered, with the upper part of the Crib lifting up.Both parts were joined as a Globe Jesus christ was concealed inside that. Church also conducted a competition of Xmas cribs. It was held among nine sectors , divided according to the location. These nine sectors comes under our chuch, spread across vast area. They were given stalls to install their creativity. All were worth viewing. Service ended by 1.30am on 25th December.
.
We had a nice sleep. Then messages and calls started ringing my mobile phone. There were calls from my closest circles, whom I least expected. We had cake and wine. We cooked Chicken in bulk and had a big food festival. Our neighbours, who stays upstair , made special meals and fish and some home town special snacks and were given to us. We had a nice time.
.
Enjoy Madi

Olive

Lemme introduce to you, Olive. Olive is a Bakery coupled with tea shop, situated in Electronics city Bangalore. It is near SBI bank. Our {NCSTians} evenings were mostly spend at Olive. Initailly the populae who used to visit Olive were very very small. Gang size used to grow slowly. We considered it as a great place to have chit chats and tea.

.

The Olive nightouts is something we all NCSTians remember. NCSTians after heating up the brains throughout the day , used to take a sip of hot tea and puffs from here. This was an off campus caffeteria for us.

.

The circle of friends rushed to Olive during 800-1000 pm timings.Jokes, chukkles, giggles, gossips all were spun together and everyone had a great time to rejoice and enjoy. We made lots of noise and lots of fun packed evenings. The funnier part was somebody will be made the scapegoat . He will be asked to pay the billed amount. Like this almost everyone got their chances.

.

We orgainised parties , farewells and functions there at Olive premises.Olive used to cater our needs of tea parties.

.

This snap was shot before one of my close friend Anuj Pandey left the course in pursuit of Job.We had lots of fun at Olive.

When the last semester was going on, by that time everyone used to have a visit to Olive.I think all of us have visited Olive everyday without any attendance failures.

Chain of Unxpected Events - 01/11/2007

The date 01/11/2007 took me by suprise, with the least expected incidents.
I am mentioning some of them and some of them are censored.
<>
<>
Todays plan was to somehow apply for a PAN card, since the deadline was approaching. So I was bit lazy to catch the usual 8:00am Society bus. Even I do maintained a delay in all things, I got the bus. Usually, I will be in a hurry and I will be catching bus , just before it starts rolling.
<>
<>
I reached Thane and enquired where can I find an AXIS bank (previously UTI ).Two of the persons give directions to reach there. Since I dont want to waste the energy and time , I asked a stranger who was sipping tea from a near by hawker shop. This simple man, aged around 50, and whose words were not that clear, directed me . But the contradiction was the direction was opposite to what other two have asked me to follow. Later he took me to some extend and give directions to reach there. I was asking "Are u sure , Are u sure". He replied "I am sure , just come with me". I indicated him that, other two said a road which was totally opposite to this. I being doubtfull , followed his directions. And finally I reached there at UTI bank, proving that he was right.
<>
<>
Since the banks timing was from 09:30am. I had to wait. I just went out in search of a hotel to spend time. Finally I got one, which was a good Veg hotel , that too in the hear of Thane. I ate food and had tea. In between, the person, whom I queried about PAN, entered the hotel. He had talk with the staff there and had some prayers .Finally against all the odds, he acquired Managers chair. I was really surprised, knowing he is the Manager/Owner of the hotel for years. When I made the payment, this man stood up with a smiling face and enquired if you find the place or not. It was almost like , a "filmy shot" for me.
<>
<>
Later, I positioned myself in the Queue for PAN application.I had to get form. The lady at counter asked me something in Marathi. For the first time , I spoke Marathi for some neccessity. "Marathi ethnai" . She smiled and continued conversation in Hindi. Filled the forms and submitted the applications.
<>
<>
I walked so slowly and lazily. But I was able to catch the train, which was like waiting for my arrival. It was not crowded also. Local are carrying 3 times more than its capacity.
<>
<>
During office hours, I used to use Gmail, where one of my friend used some shocking words. Since the person was someone close to me , I dont want to disclose the name. But I hope it was done by somebody else with that persons label. It was really shocking and unexpected. I dont want to drill down more on this.
<>
<>
Later, I got the Society bus, so as to return to Flat.Since our bus was having Pass system, everyone is upposed to show the pass and then board the bus. Those who are not a pass holder has to board the bus after all pass holders step in. Usually it was checked. But today, this was made a real issue by a lady. And this time the victim was the bus's helper. He was a strict person, who always check passes. He was caught , for a onetime error. I was realy amazed. This inputed me that, even if you remain clean, one simple mistake will spoil ur image.
<>
<>
Thane was lashed by rains today. That too the rainfall was very huge and lasted for hours. The potholes were all filled up with water.Rain was a surprise gift, but at the same time , people really got trapped , because the least expected happened.
<>
<>
Later I and my friend , went for a film "JAB WE MEET". I was really against Kareena Kapoor and her films. I didnt viewed one till now. So this one all of sudden plans were made and we viewed it.
<>
<>
So these is one of the chain of unexpected and most shocking events .It was a great experience.

___________________________________________________________________
Preparation and packing for the expedition
.
The first and foremost thing is that , we planned for loading the car with luggages of all the three persons on 11th October midnight. The night was a real hell. I and my friend Mr Ninoop tried the Permutation and Combinations to arrange all baggages. We really miss those classes. Had we been there , we would have handled the situation very well.
.
When ever we tried to accomodate all, then one always becomes "Outstanding" baggage. Then we tried out with other combinations. Later the permutation and combination story was given some time to relax. Then our heads got logged in to thinking mode. Suddenly Ninoop, Who was having the "Real" problematic luggage, thought of migrating the items to another baggage. Now I utilized my punching power at max. The forces applied so as to accomodate the same luggage from a Box to a bag. Finally that is done , a real head ache was over.
.
Next, what else the same permutation and combinations in the baggage space. Still we were missing something. "Missing" means we were having extra. Later we figure out that there is one item which can be taken from baggage space. And believe me that was the "Steppini" - Backup tyre. Finally we take away steppini and packed the space with 5 big baggages.
.
So then come the question, where we can place the steppini. Finally we find a good place to dispose it.That was in the back seat. Finally mission ended. And we really got exhuasted. And I and Ninoop didnt sleep . And more than that I assured my friend Bhupesh , that i will drop him at Mulund from Waghbill that too in my bike by 500 am. He has to take flight to Bangalore so as to attend an interview.
.
With the first assignment pending and cannot be cancelled, I thought of taking a sleep after execution of that . But, then I had Responsibilities to be executed other than that. I was supposed to be in a Demo where the major stake holders of my client will be present. So two assigments , more over responsibilities, created enough pressure of not taking sleep. By 5:15am , I along with bhupesh headed to Mulund by car. After safelanding him at Mulund , I returned. Took bath, agian last minutes arrangments were made. But this time no Permution and Combination "Bahuat ho gaya yaar, abhi nahin". Later I drove the car till My client site which is in KhoperKhairne.
So one sleepless night. If this is the condition prevailed during packaging itself, what happens to the upcoming days ?
I am really interested and enthusiatic in meeting my NCST, COLLEGE, SCHOOL buddies.
Day 1 ->12/10/2007
I had to attend a demo today. I explained what our plans and what happened yesterday to my colleagues and senior. Today we are supposed to give the Bigshots of client a demo. So we crosschecked all the products, whether it is working or not. They were perfectly alright. Then after having lunch we headed to carry out the demo. Senior very well explained all parts. Later I was asked to join. I was caught. I had to deliver the demo.Demo ended successfully. Time was five 0 clock. I called up Ninoop and all , and queried where are they. And luckily they were far away from my site. Hunt was on for buying the crucial lever of car. So I stayed back at reliance. They came by 1830pm. We headed to Bangalore ,with all meters up. Around 1930 we reached expressway , The Mumbai - pune express highway. The "Toll Kahani " started from here. They charged around 120INR I hope.Breaking all my expectations, it was not at all upto the mark. The road gets narrow and then suddenly becomes broad. Leave all those , here also the devil of transoportation has a good stronghold. A great part of the traversal was hit by slow moving trucks and sometimes blocks. It was that bad.
Aftersaying alvida to the so called Expressway, we entered NH-4, which forms a major part of NHAIs Golden Quadrilateral Project. It is really a good project.Still National Highway - 4 remains incomplete in somepart.Still the rest , remains very very good, that too with no blocks. But the main difficulties are there are numerous tollgates and the amount encashed by them is huge. So we parted our journey into sections so as to avoid the hardships . There were three of us. I and my friend Ninoop had some technical knowhow . But this much distance and continuous drive were a real challenge . Still we ,were thriving to drive and do the maximum. I am really crazy for driving.
After the Pune drive, we stepped down some where near khed to fill up our fuel tanks. I almost consumed all that which have been intaken. We avoided nonVeg , so as to keep ourself out from the aftereffects during drive. The great and wonderful experience was , the hotel was owned by a Malayalee, he was from Kasaragod, the north most district of Kerala. He explained us the routes and what really happens here. After having our Veg foodings, I was assigned the duty. Since the tank got filled up , I was happy to do so. My aim was to drive till Kolhapur.
So the journey , started again. With me in the pilot position. The third person, the owner of car, was a real head ache to us.He perturbed our concentration very much and was unnecessary making noise and all. If the meter goes beyond 120Kmph, then he will start shouting as if we all are dead. It was a real head ache. I studied anger management also very well. During the shift, traversed through hairpin clips, S curves, and round trippng. I hope the area was Khandala. It was that much nice to view, nice to turn. I like the roads with S curves very much. The real beauty of the road was , it was one way. So no fear of vehicles coming in opposite direction and blurring off your eyes. There was real tailgating and also great maneovours , because of the feeling of oneway. In the nigth itself we were amazed by the beauty of the road. Then came straight roads , smooth cool , where the needles just touched the heights without any hiccups. The tolls started coming one by one. Each charging nothing less than 50INR. Some times the rate skyscaped to 75INR.By the time we reached Kolhapur, I think we were charged by around 5 toll gates. And after crossing Kolhapur, the other two asked me to stop the car, feeling the car has overheated. So I stopped it near a Petrol station . By the time I had driven around 225Kms in one spell. So we inspected the vehicle. The rear tyre , was hot and that was the one which fumed the suspesion. In between there were rains also. The A/C and MP3 player was really an added feature without which we would have got bored.
Later the shift was changed to Ninoop. He was assigned to drive till Belgaum. I was really feeling sleepy now. I shifted Varghese to the backseat, so as to give Ninoop a little relaxation. Then Ninoop was also happy. I slept inbetween. I repeatedly asked Varghese to sleep. He insisted , that he wont sleep. But finally, the alarm took some rest. We were in heaven for sometime. From there the vehicle speeded upto Hubli. Then I took over the wheels. There were somekind of dust strom for around one hour, while we were cruising at speeds of140kmph. What exactly was that , we still don't know. It is a real mystery.
Day 2
On Day 2 ,I was driving the car. Then Ninoop was assigned. Later we got sccumbed to the pressure of fog. Unfortunately the vehicle lacked fog lamps. And every one become concerned of the journey. The so called expedition was delayed mainly due to FOG. The vllian made us to go really slow that made us boring . It started when Ninoop was driving. We thought it will get over soon.Still we managed it using A/C , heater , viper control etc. Later we swaped after a point. What I encountered was tough resistance of Fog. Still we overcame it. But he what we have to give up was the speed . This time , we switched to a lower speed, so as to coupe up with lower visibility. Again we swaped , this time , the fog was at its max, so that we had to stop the car. I was still having the idea on how to go. But an afraightened Varghese , insisted not to do that. Finally , I convinced him , we can follow some other vehicles and can drive. Finally , it worked , we started . Again all of a sudden all changed. Climate was good. Then the next feature , Broken roads, or roads to no where . They can be given to WRC champions , to test their capabilities. It was all filled up with potholes . This time Varghese really came to confront with me . So I handed over the keys and asked him to manage. So finally "By learning what can be possible and what will give his car more life" he handed it over to me .

Gas Chambers of Maharastra [Mumbai]

It might be Hilter, who gave Gas chambers popularity . You might think that they don't exist. You are wrong !!!!
.

These chambers are so built , that no air should come in , no space is left. These are the Transporting system of Maharastra. The trains , the buses [long route] all are packed without leaving a single inch vaccant. Now let us traverse through the problem.

.

The root cause can be

.

Frequency

The frequency of buses being low, makes people to try out other alternatives. This inturn fuel up the traffic. Frequency being less and the buses which always try to create an additional stop after the real bus stop make the situations worse. Only those who are present at the initial starting point can catch a bus.Rest has to wait until they find somebody kind enough. The more the frequency, the more people get divert to public transport. With more frequency , less crowded buses.
.

.

Worse Design

Design of the buses are as if the circulation of air is blocked, with drivers seat and the area besides him being cased in steel/iron box. The circulation of air is not adequate as the buses window pane design is so poor.It won't open up many times. So an airtight chamber to live in. Altogether if its summer, the sweet sweat smell will be spreading throughout, causing even suffocation. The interiors of buses are shaddy. You feel as if you entered into a bleak section. This design is majorly present in long distance buses. Irritation garunteed
.

.

No rule and regulation
After spending your time in this chambers, you will also see amazing "break the rules" formula. These buses are driven as if they are not at all binding to law and order. All vehicles which are on its way to destination, should move out of it way fast & finally let the bus go. The stoppages are just kept there. Even as the stranded passengers await the bus, they wont stop there. Most of the times stoppages are far beyond the real stop. And some times they save fuel too. Instead of making two stoppages at two bus stop, they stop in middle. So fuel is saved
.
.
Centralised Approach

Here the orginating place of buses are centralised. That means almost all buses will flow to a single location causing huge traffic. But cities like Bangalore, chennai are far far better. Even if Bangalore is smaller in size, they have apoted the decentralised approach. They have a decentrelised-center approach. This means a maximum number of originating places, Bus depots. These are scrambled across city. This will enable to try alternative routes. This approach also ensures a almost equal distribution of traffic. The centralised approach,on the other hand, makes more people and vehicles to rush in and there by resulting in more blocks.

.

.
The decentralised approach and a better design can change this City of dreams .

Mumbai VS Bangalore

Hello everyone,

Let me introduce ,

This blog is quoted so as to express the impression a person have as he spends around one year in Bangalore and afterwards joins Mumbai . I have been in Mumbai since this 17th. This blog is a personal observation.

The main difference you feel when you change from Bangalore is the Climate. It was humid here.
Second is the pollution level which is very very low.
Third will be the Transportation {Bus/Train} and the Roads.
Fourth is the amount of Traffic and congestion {Human traffic }
Fifth is the Flooded spots, Potholes
Sixth is the Culture of Mumbai
Seventh are the Slums
Eight VadaPaav
Ninth Socitey Culture
And more to be added

Climate
___________
Bangalore has a very very cool climate .There is some degradation in recent years. But still the warmth is maintained.

Mumbai has a dry climate, when I reached here. Then it was almost unbearable at first. But some hours later body got adjusted to that. Now when rains started. It was like there is no end to that. That is good . But the problem is the authorities over here had not learned a lesson even after continous floods and waterlogging.

Pollution Levels
____________
Bangalore >> The pollution levels in Bangalore are alarming. And the colossal effect of this can be seen when you make a halt during traffic. The vehicle used over there have no cross check.Even it is a 100 year old vehicle also , it is allowed to run. Some times the emissions made by the vehicle[Especially by Autos] are so huge, that they cloud the paths.

Mumbai >> Now when you steps into the Mumbai region, you will be amazed. The reason, a road where there is no smoke and even the other side is visible to you. The steps taken by Government should be appreciated. The efforts to convert vehicles to CNG, there by making it fuel efficient, cheaper, emission free is very very great.

Transportation
____________
Bangalore >> The transportation mode over here is only bus.Still it manages to get people to offices. There are also traffic blocks. But rain never causes an extra delay in those.

Mumbai >> Trains can be told as the nerves or the veins of Mumbai .They are doing an excellent work. But still the need is not meet. The trains frequency should be increased or the train lanes should be increased to meet the demand. Another problem is the change over of trains in different stations to reach destination. This may be done ,so as to maintain a high availability of trains.

The bus service over here is hopeless. There is no time. If bus arrive then also vehicle some times never stops for those who are waiting for long time.If at all they stop during peak hours ,they will be stopping far away from stop ,so that no one can get into it.The best side is when people standing out , requests the conductor to open the door , even if there are seats, he
wont open up. The speed of the buses are very slow.

Traffic
________
Bangalore >> Some routes of bangalore are congested and are having traffic blocks. But still there seems to be a momentum .

Mumbai >> The interesting part is the human traffic. Here human are also the users of all the footpath, road etc. It is very very huge.Bangalore doesnot have this much. Then the traffic blocks , here it can last for 2hrs without a single switching on of engine. The block when rain samshes Mumbai is very very bad. Still the traffic police tries to get it allright. The best part is the accident rates and chances are much much less compared to Bangalore. And also everyone seems to obey the rules with responsibility.

Flooded Spots , Potholes
__________
Bangalore >>Bangalore the soil and the roads are not that much effected by rain. Reason I think is a better and planned design of roads. There are areas with spots all flooded, but very minimal.

Mumbai >> Mumbai, the roads constructed over here are like, one rain, one big hole. But there are good roads also. A little care from the administration can resolve this issue in a matter of time. More over, i hope the public department, would have used all alternative methods to construct roads. The roads i have seen are, cemented, usual, bricks [various type], combination of both. Still they donot know which one to be used. I hope they should propel the economy by a better road.

Culture
_______
Bangalore >> There is no culture in Bangalore. It doesnot mean that all people are cultureless. I want to point out that, you wont feel that the city belongs to a particular culture. There is nothing common among the people, houses, buildings etc. I want to specify the landscape.More over the trees, which had great stories to tell, are often chopped down at Bangalore.

Mumbai >>After around a one hour journey, you will recognise the soul of Mumbai. The dressing style, the food, the buildings, the language. You smell Mumbai in everything. This culture holds Mumbai together, united. But Bangalore, on the other hand doesnot have peoples unity in diversity culture. All will be having a seperate unity. But the inner circles of Bangalore are very very good.

Slums
______
Bangalore
There are minimal area of slum.
Mumbai
House of asias largest slum and more slums are ading up

An incident that would have blown me up

I want to share the incident that happened on 14/3/2007 . I gave my bike for service at Bangalore by afternoon . It was the first time I was giving my bike in Bangalore for service .
Vehicle has crossed its service mark. The delivery time was 17.30 pm. I reached there at 17.00 hrs . Then they told that there will be delay in delivery since there was no power. Then after two hours wait I got the vehicle with replacements and service. It was the last vehicle delivered that day. I paid the amount. On return I turned the bikes petrol meter to its reserve position. Then some water came. I was in middle of heavy traffic. Then vehicle started to show missing i thought problem with the control . so i turned it to opposite position.
But then the liquid started flowing very easily. Then I got real doubt. It was Petrol. The water like item was petrol. I had run the vehicle some half kilometer. On the road petrol was pouring on. I thought I would be blown up if somebody have lit some ciggaratte.Petrol fall directly onto the engine itself. The connection between the filter and engine was cut off. The mechanic who done this job forget to do that and by GOD s Grace I am alive
So Check your vehicle before you leave the service center, Especially your brake and engine connections
